Classes on How to Use the New Library Catalog

We will be hosting classes to help you become familiar with our new catalog and to answer any questions you may have. You will learn different ways to search the catalog to get the best results, how to place reservations, view your account and renew your books online.

This is the schedule for the classes at the Main Library:

Trick-or-Treating Times and Safety

The times for trick-or-treating on Saturday October 31st in East Baton Rouge Parish will be 5-7pm. Boils and Ghouls will be roaming the streets scaring people and collecting treats so be sure to watch out if you’re driving around town or on the way to the LSU v Tulane game.

The Baton Rouge Police Department have offered the following safety tips:

  • Never allow children to trick-or-treat without adult supervision.
  • Always stay in groups.
  • Use sidewalks and stay out of the street wherever possible.
  • Wear reflective clothing or bright costumes.
  • Trick-or-treat only in familiar neighborhoods.
  • Do not allow children to eat candy or treats until thoroughly checked by an adult.
  • Call police if any suspicious activity occurs, or if candy is suspected to be tainted.
  • Residents are urged to hand out only manufactured, sealed candy.

Attic Treasures and Collectibles

We are holding our 9th annual Attic Treasures & Collectibles at the Greenwell Springs Road Regional Branch on Saturday October 31st from 9:00am to 1pm.

It’s a great chance for you to bring in those heirlooms and antiques and have them evaluated by experts! (limit 3 per person)

Some examples of categories of items that specialists will evaluate include dolls, stamps, coins, jewelry, books and paintings. You may have a hidden treasure, come along and find out!

Live @ Chelsea’s Starts This Week!

The super popular library jazz series Live @ Chelsea’s kicks off for a new season on Wednesday October 21, 6:30pm-8:30pm at Chelsea’s Cafe, 2857 Perkins Road. The series will run through Spring 2010 featuring some fantastic jazz musicians!

First up on October 21st is Harry Anderson, jazz bassist and director of the Southern University Jazz Institute. Be hip and don’t miss it!

Louisiana Book Festival

It’s time for the 7th Annual Louisiana Book Festival presented by the Louisiana Center for the Book in the State Library of Louisiana!

On Saturday October 17, 10:00am-5:00pm, downtown by the State Capitol, meet authors, enjoy great programs, listen to live music and browse the exhibitors stalls.
